Feeling Finnish

Alhtough Finnish Iittala are famous for their glassware and crockery, their new strategy is to expand into interiors for the home. With this in mind this year has seen the launch of a series of new products  including this contrasting concrete and glass Leimu lamp by up and coming Norwegian but London-based designer Magnus Pettersen  . These modular plywood Vakka boxes (second below) are also another product from their push into homewares . Concrete is a hot material in home accessories design at the moment and was everywhere at September’s Maison Objet in Paris.

 

Clay dreams

Les Guimards make their exquisite pots from the little French village of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. The small and artisanal firm  produce beautifully colourful tableware made from clay that is dug from their own quarry. They caught the eye of the clever buyers at Darkroom London.

What’s Cooking?

Those with Le Creuset fatigue should turn to French Staub who specialise in French enamelled cast iron cookware. The firm traces its origins back to Alsace, famous for hearty one-pot dishes, some items even have different handles such as the bouillabaisse and coq au vin “cocotte”. Loved by Michelin chefs such as Paul Bocuse.
